Visit Calhan for the 102nd El Paso County Fair July 21 through July 28. The premier sponsor of the fair is Perkins Dodge. Besides the usual favorites like the 4-H culinary, crafts and animal exhibits, more than 75 vendor booths will be present. Check out the following schedule of events:Opening day, by the way, is sponsored by Barnhart Pump Company.July 21: Monster Truck ShowJuly 22: Family Day sponsored by Don’s Garden Shop. Activities include a concert by the Yampa Valley Boys and Colorado Wranglers and a draft horse pull.July 23: Furry Friends Day, sponsored by Morley Co. Enter the pet show at the fair Web site listed below. Visit the top hogs and dogs shows, sponsored by Farmers State Bank. The Youth Rodeo takes place at 6 p.m.July 24: Youth Day, sponsored by the El Pomar Foundation. Feature show is the Mini Swine Show, and the Gunfighters Show, sponsored by the Pikes Peak Co-Op, will perform four times throughout the day. The Teva Paint Mines 6K Race and Fun Run in the nearby El Paso County Paint Mines Interpretive Park takes place that evening. Teen bands will have an opportunity to perform at the County Fair’s Teen Battle of the Bands at 6 p.m.July 25: Dollar Day, sponsored by GE Johnson. Everyone gets in for $1. The first-ever Got Talent Show will commence at 6 p.m, with Doc Eason, a magician and comedian, as host. The winner will play live for KKTV the next morning!July 26: The fair will host a 4-H appreciation dinner. Catch all the games, a goat costume contest and a dance that evening. The El Paso County Speedway presents a race, sponsored by Coors.July 27: A sock hop with the popular band “Tiny Barge and the Big Chill” and Senior Day, sponsored by Classic Homes. At noon, seniors can enjoy a free slice of pie, compliments of the Girl Scouts. Bingo follows.July 28: Don’t miss American Heroes Day, sponsored by Mountain View Electric.
