The list and a map will be distributed to the public at both the community center west and the recreation center east.The $5 payment and the address information must be received by June 7. The challenge is free and open to boys and girls from ages 6 to 13. Age classification is as of Dec. 31, 2007.The baseball challenge includes running, batting and throwing for distance. Top scorers from each age group and gender will advance to the sectional competition. Kids are required to wear sneakers or plastic/rubber cleats only; no metal spikes. We are as flexible as the next guy when it comes to changing our plans. Thanks for understanding that at times our luncheons may need to be rescheduled when they conflict with church activities as they did May 9. The turnout May 16 was great and, as usual, we enjoyed an outstanding meal, had fun with our drawings and learned some things about gardening.The next potluck luncheon is June 13 at Falcon Baptist Church, 11095 Eggar Road at 11 a.m. Lasagna is the main dish, along with tossed salad and garlic bread. Bring a side dish, salad or dessert. Drinks and table service are provided. Dads will be honored with special door prize drawings. Ken Sanders, director of the Center on Fathering, will be the guest speaker.Two new programs will be added to the Falcon seniorsí slate of activities. Beverly Kelty is organizing card players for games such as bridge, hearts and spades. The games will be played at Stratford’s Espresso when space and time is available. Mike Decker, director of the Pikes Peak Area Agency on Aging spoke to the committee at the May meeting. Some funding could be made available to help support a Falcon/Eastern El Paso County senior center in Falcon if a suitable building could be found. The committee welcomes input and ideas from anyone willing to help with this effort. The cost is $10 per person payable in cash or by check to AARP. Discounts in automobile insurance rates can be made available through individual insurance carriers upon completion of the program. Help celebrate Celtic culture and the Elizabeth area community. There will be plentiful Scottish and Irish merchants, clans, artisans and food vendors. Food items include hamburgers, hot dogs, pulled pork, chips and cold drinks, served from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The club will also offer a limited breakfast of pancakes, breakfast burritos and coffee for the setup crews.The food court is their first fundraiser of the year, and all proceeds will directly support community projects. Raffle tickets for a two-horse trailer, a four-day, three-night cruise to the Bahamas or a weekend get-a-way to San Francisco, Orlando, Key West or Las Vegas will be available (all trips include roundtrip air for two; the weekend trip includes a rental car as well, along with $500 mad money).
