Woodmen Hills Community Center West and High Plains Little League teamed up for the first Colorado Rockies Baseball Skills Challenge for boys and girls ages 6 to 13.The event was held at the Falcon Middle School June 16. Eddie Avedikian, Woodmen Hills Community Center West director, and Chris Howard, president of the High Plains Little League) coordinated the activities and event.The event drew 110 kids this year. They challenged each other by age groups in three events:
- Base Running: Each participant made one attempt. All age groups ran the distance from second base to third base to home plate. The bases were 90 feet apart, and the times were recorded as the contestants touched the base.
- Batting: Each participant had three chances to hit the ball from a stationary tee as far as possible.
- Throwing: Points were given according to individual attempts in each age category.
