Colorado “owns” the city of love

Loveland, Colorado, was founded in 1866 along the newly constructed line of the Colorado Central Railroad, near the Big Thompson River. It was named in honor of William A.H. Loveland, the president of the Colorado Central Railroad.Loveland has been re-mailing valentines with a special cachet and postal cancellation since 1947.†Since then, Loveland has become world renown for its dedication to romance.†The Sweetheart Cityís Valentine remailing includes more than 130,000 cards each year from all 50 states and more than 110 countries!Along with the Valentines that get mailed internationally through the city’s re-mailing program, the Fire & Ice Festival is part of Lovelandís Valentine’s Day holiday.For the third year, Loveland offers a venue for couples to partake in a group wedding.Couples can purchase tickets online, and apply for a marriage license through Larimer County. Bring the license to register, which is Feb. 14, between 2 and 4 p.m.†All couples participating in the group wedding will have their certificate signed by the officiant. They also receive special signature Valentine’s wedding cupcakes, a love lock and a gift bag for participating.†A photographer is available as well, and every couple will also be registered to win a large gift package from participating partners.
