Did you hear about Coco, the Siamese cat? Coco was near death when he came to the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region on March 14. The six-year-old, seal point Siamese was found in a Fountain resident’s backyard, shot numerous times with a pellet gun and a dart gun. After receiving immediate treatment in the humane society’s evaluation center, Coco was rushed to Westside Animal Hospital for veterinary attention. He was thought permanently blind after having been shot in both eyes. Several pellets were removed from the wounded cat at both HSPPR and Westside Animal Hospital. After weeks of physical and psychological recovery in foster care, Coco accepted human touch, plays with his favorite toys and even purrs. And he found a home in May.His new adopter, selected from a pool of 20 people, has no children and no other pets. She is ready to meet Coco’s special needs, understanding that the severe trauma he experienced will affect the rest of his life.Animal Welfare Officers continue to investigate Coco’s abuse, and have several leads on potential suspects. HSPPR is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to prosecution of Coco’s torturer. To report a lead, please contact Officer Jamie Norris at 473-1741, ext. 115.
