The Woodmen Hills Metropolitan District has a new board president and a new (interim) district manager. After board re-elections in May, Keith Moulton took the reins from board president Jan Pizzi, who is now the treasurer. In the wake of Larry Bishopís resignation, Gene Cozzolino is the interim district manager.Jan Pizzi said she wanted to change positions because she had been president for four years and wanted to ìshare the wealth.îìThe title just puts us in a place at the table while we are in a meeting,î Moulton said. ìBut when we are out there, we are equal representatives.î He added that the board can vote to change positions at any time.As his first task as president, Moulton read the retirement letter written by Bishop. ìOn behalf of the district and the people we serve, we wish Larry well in his retirement,î Moulton said. ìHe served the district well for many years and remains a neighbor in the community.îMoulton said he did not have any further insight into Bishopís reason for leaving. ìHe sent a resignation letter to the board to retire and that is what we accept at this point,î Moulton said. ìBeyond that, it is a personnel issue that we cannot comment on.îDuring the meeting, the board also approved four items regarding a leak in the water storage tank, which occurred in May. The board unanimously approved a request for proposal to repair the 1 million gallon tank at the Theriot site, which is located on the west side of Woodmen Hills. They also approved a multi-rake screen and wash press for the wastewater treatment plant; a blower upgrade for the aerators in Pond 1 at the wastewater treatment plant; and a third-party study of the tank failure.Eddie Avedikian, parks and recreation director, updated the board on an addition to the Woodman Hills Community Park off Woodmen Hills Drive. He said they hope to have a dedication ceremony for the park in July or August. Avedikian also said his department has begun construction on a BMX track, which is southeast of Horseshoe Park off Eastonville Road. The track will be open to the public. He also reported that two picnic benches at Dane Balcon Park had been vandalized. The benches will not be replaced at this time. Before the meeting ended, the board addressed construction east of Poblanos restaurant. WHMDís main lift station is located near there, but the construction is related to Meridian Ranch, which is building a new lift station to pump its sewer to the Cherokee sewer plant.
