The Eastern Plains Chamber of Commerce held its monthly meeting May 6 in Falcon. Members and guests were updated on chamber activities and opportunities to volunteer in the communityMembership drive: The membership committee, chaired by Christel Blaylock, is working to increase membership. “Our goal is to double membership by the end of the year,” Blaylock said.Falcon Festival: Vendor applications were sent to 200 businesses in the community, said Cindy Stimits, EPCC board secretary. Business sponsorships are still available. The festival will be held June 20 at Patriot Learning Center.Internship opportunities: Kim Gleeson, Falcon District 49 internship development specialist, presented information about a new internship program involving D 49 students. The program is in the initial stages of development, Gleeson said. She is recruiting businesses to hire students as interns for 12-16 weeks at a minimum of four hours per week. Teachers or counselors refer students to the program. Once they are accepted, the students undergo career counseling to help them select the right internship.In addition to the meeting’s regular business, several chamber members displayed their artwork. Denny McNeill, Jim Friedly and Connie Johnson were three of the members showing their work.”This is just a fun thing for us to let you know we do more than come to meetings and complain,” said Friedly, EPCC board chairman.
