Can chiropractic cure my …?

One of the questions I often get: “Can chiropractic help my problem?”One of the criticisms I’ve heard for years: “Chiropractors believe chiropractic can cure anything, from the common cold to cancer.”My answer: Sure, chiropractic can help. And no, chiropractic can’t cure you. Now let me explain.Chiropractic is not magic. It is not voodoo. It is not medicine nor does it want to be. It is unique in its own wonderful way. Chiropractic is based on the premise that the body is organized to always seek its own highest good. The nervous system controls and coordinates all the body’s functions to ensure that happens. And stress on the nervous system can affect how well the body functions.A chiropractor removes or reduces one source of stress on the nervous system. When that happens, a body functions better. And when the body is functioning better, health improves; and, usually, symptoms go away.A patient recently told me her young son was having problems with recurrent ear infections. Although both she and the boy’s father receive chiropractic adjustments, they weren’t sure it was right for their son in this situation. Two weeks later, she came to me with a “headache that wouldn’t quit.” It was a bit ironic: natural chiropractic care for her; antibiotics for her toddler. But, can chiropractic cure ear infections, cancer or even the common cold? Of course not! The first chiropractic adjustment helped restore a deaf man’s hearing; yet, not every deaf person who’s gotten adjusted has had their hearing restored. However, I would never refuse to adjust someone because they have cancer, ear infections or a common cold. Adjustments are based on the individual’s needs. In my practice, I accept all cases regardless of their condition because I know that the human body is capable of far more than I or science can even imagine. If I can remove a source of interference in the body’s functions, there is no telling what might happen.I learned long ago that miracles DO happen only when we step out of the way and allow them to. Truly, the real miracle is that we ever allow the body to function as it was originally designed. Unlike medicine, which attempts to cure disease, chiropractic removes interference from the nervous system so the body can heal and cure itself. The chiropractic adjustment can help relieve or reduce pain associated with different conditions, and there are a number of conditions routinely helped through chiropractic treatment. As a result, many patients experience improvement due to the body’s ability to heal itself. So, back to the original question – can chiropractic help my problem? Yes, of course it can.Palmer Chiropracticwww.palmer-chiropractic.com719-494-1395
