Calling all runners

It’s summer and the race is on. This time it’s the Grand Prix Classic 10K, sponsored by Runner’s Roost, to be held July 30.The race starts at 7 a.m. in front of Tiffany Square on Corporate Center Drive (Interstate 25 and Woodmen Road), and follows the Pikes Peak Greenway along Monument Creek. The point-to point racecourse is one of the fastest courses in Colorado, mostly paved and relatively wide, with rolling hills along its path.Be aware of mud on the pavement if it has been raining! In Monument Valley Park the path turns to gravel and ends on grass.Busses will shuttle runners back to the starting point, or runners may team up, leave one car near the end, and carpool to the starting point.In addition to the cash prizes, trophies are awarded to the top-three in each age division, which starts at 14 and under and progresses in five-year increments through the 70-plus age group.Runners receive a goodie-bag and T-shirt, along with post-race fruit, bagels, water and Gatorade at the finish area. The awards ceremony will take place in Monument Valley Park after the race, and there will be massages available, compliments of the Colorado Institute of Massage Therapy.First place male and female winners each receive $500 cash. Second place winners receive $250; third place $150; fourth place $100; first place masters male and female each receive $100 and the male and female who sets a new course record wins $100 each.The cost for the event is $20 for advance registration, and $25 the day of the race.Register online at www.csgrandprix.com or in person at Runner’s Roost at 107 E.
