The Calhan Lions Club volunteered to provide pies for the El Paso County Fair’s Senior Citizen “free pie day.” The club decided that homemade pies would be more of a treat than the commercial variety, so a marathon baking session was launched and 23 pies in ten varieties were baked.Another event sponsored by the Calhan Lions Club was the Aug. 9 KidSpree to provide back to school items for needy children. The event was held at the Falcon Wal-Mart and was made possible by a generous grant from Mountain View Electric Association and the efforts of Pikes Peak Community Action Agency. The Calhan Lions Clubs meets on the first Tuesday of each month at Swink Hall, El Paso County Fairgrounds at 6:30 p.m. For information on membership, call 719-749-2798.
