Calhan Lions Club presented three awards

Calhan Lions Club President Jim Nile presented awards of excellence to three club members at the September meeting. Ken Harris received the “Excellence in Service” award for his years of service as the “mint man.” “Ken has serviced the mint boxes in our area for decades,” Nile said.Pam Gotschall received the “Treasurer” award time spent as treasurer of the club, and Toni Gibbons received the “Excellence in Public Relations” award for the newspaper coverage she has provided. Nile said more awards will be presented at future meetings.The annual Calhan Lions Club “Craft Show” is Saturday, Nov. 3, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Whittemore Building on the El Paso County Fairgrounds near Calhan. Carl Finney is chairman of the event. Booths are available for rent at $20 for a floor space table and $30 for a wall space table. Crafters may call (719) 749-2715 for information.A flu clinic is scheduled Oct. 24, the same day as the senior dinner. Carrie DeAngelo confirmed that the Kidsight program is well under way with the first testing accomplished at Calhan School. The bins are located behind the Community Action Agency in Calhan.The Calhan Lions Club will celebrate its charter membership 68th anniversary at the Oct. 2 meeting.
