Bandanas, branding irons, spurs, and saddles decorated the grand ballroom of the Crowne Plaza Hotel for the district 6-SE convention hosted by the Calhan Lions Club. The theme of the convention was ‘cowboys’ and the 6-SE Brand of Lionism. Jeans, Stetsons and cowboy boots were the order of the evening for the Friday night cowboy buffet. Chuck Pyle, songwriter and performer of western style music, was the special entertainment.Calhan Lions Bob Selle and Donna Selle conducted a service to commemorate those Lions who had passed away during the year. Calhan Lion Nancy Guenther provided information in a mini-session on how Lions clubs can “let the world know what they are doing” through good news releases and photographs. Betty Whitney spearheaded the organization of the convention, but said, “I had a lot of help.” District Governor Monty Whitney helped present awards and gifts. Guests of honor were international director Steven D. Sherer and his wife, Mary Ellen, of New Philadelphia, Ohio. The convention ended Saturday evening with a semi-formal banquet.
