The Small Business Development Center will hold the following seminars in December:
- “Funding Your Business” on Tuesday, Dec. 8, from 1 to 3 p.m. The seminar is $15. Designed for businesses looking for money to start or expand. Taught by a local banker, topics covered include business loans over $100,000, micro loans and SBA loans. The seminar will also explain the lending process and what lenders are looking for; organizing your loan proposal; how to negotiate a loan; identifying internal and external sources of money; and differentiating between equity and debt financing. Basic topics to include in a business plan to prepare for funding will also be included.
- “Close the Door on 2009: Are you Ready for the Tax Man?” on Tuesday, Dec. 15, from 5 to 8 p.m. The seminar is $20. Learn what steps you should take now to get your books organized by the end of the year. This workshop will cover reconciling account balances and reviewing the year’s activity, as well as possible tax strategies that could help reduce your tax bill. We will discuss the current status of your small business, as well as plan future decisions for 2010. This class is taught by a local CPA.
- “Basics of Bookkeeping” on Thursday, Dec. 17, from 9 a.m. to noon. The cost is $40.This workshop is designed for the entrepreneur with little or no experience in business accounting and is taught by a local CPA. The workshop will cover functions of record keeping; cash versus accrual systems; recording transactions; revenue, expenses and depreciations; and accounts payable and receivable. This seminar is for both small business owners and business assistants in charge of financial transactions and record keeping.
- “Quickbooks Pro-Advanced: Year-End Procedures” on Thursday, Dec. 20, from noon to 4 p.m. The cost is $75. Small business owners will learn how to create, compile and close QuickBooks at year-end during an interactive workshop taught by a local CPA. This seminar will cover how to close your books for the year as well as how to create and compile financial reports. Attendees will learn how to create forms W-2, W-3, 1099, 940, 941 and 1096. The workshop will also cover how to create a workable QuickBooks database for your tax preparer. “QuickBooks Pro – Intro” is recommended as a prerequisite if no prior experience with QuickBooks.
