The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Rocky Mountain Chapter, nominated Brian Swanson as a finalist for the organizationís Man of the Year award, in recognition of his efforts to raise awareness and funds for research on blood cancer. Fundraisers, educational events and features on his radio show with LnB Connectors business partner and 2013 Woman of the Year nominee Lynda Cink will be highlighted throughout the competition.Cink and Dayna Jenkins of the Pikes Peak Therapeutic Riding Center at Latigo were both nominees for Woman of the Year last year, representing the Falcon area. Swanson said he hopes to leverage the efforts they made last year to continue keeping blood cancer research and education in the forefront this year.ìMy dad passed away with multiple myeloma, so blood cancer has affected me personally,î Swanson said. ìIt’s also to continue the work Lynda did last year. LnB got involved in a big way, and the natural next step was for me to take it up.îìI found out how much it impacts people I know when I did it last year,î Cink said. ìI met so many people in our networking business whose lives were affected by leukemia and lymphoma. Knowing that the money we raise here stays here and helps the people that we know was pretty huge.îCink won the community involvement award in the 2013 competition for the numerous fundraising and educational events she hosted. ìThose events allowed her to touch so many people within the community who were not previously aware of the LLS mission,î Swanson said. ìI hope to take up that torch with my events this year. We have a mascot race, a comedy dinner event and several smaller events lined up.îKathleen Saltmarsh Voss, LLS executive leadership committee member, said she is looking forward to seeing LnB Connectors continue their partnership with the organization this year. ìBrian is a fantastic fit for it because he has a huge community presence and voice,î Saltmarsh Voss said. ìHe’s able to get the message out about the devastation blood cancer does to so many people and what LLS is doing to help them.îTwo people from each region active in fundraising and education are selected as the LLS man and woman of the year. The top finishers nationwide are named LLS national man and woman of the year.
