Bruce defeats Radford in the battle for the November ballot

On Aug. 10, 54 percent of the District 2 voters rallied in favor of Douglas Bruce to represent the Republican Party in November for the district’s county commissioner seat. Bruce’ foe in the primary, Margaret Radford, current Colorado Springs City Council member, lost what a few newspaper articles hinted to as one of the most bitterly fought races in the state.”The election outcome was a victory for positive and comparative campaigning and a defeat for negative campaigning and mudsling,” Bruce said. “Everything I presented to the voters was factual.” Bruce said he was proud of his campaign literature, and the references he made to his opponent only concerned her public voting record.Regarding fellow primary winners, Bruce was disappointed that Bob Schaffer did not win his bid to run as the Republican candidate for U.S. senator, but happy that District 17 Rep. Mark Cloer was successful in maintaining the people’s confidence. Bruce supported John Newsome’s victory as El Paso County district attorney, and Newsome will run uncontested in the November election. Bruce also commented that the county commissioners’ race in general was predictable. All three commissioners, including the district attorney, won after prevailing in the county assembly. None of the petitioners won.Bruce has contacted his Democratic opponent, Stanley Hildahl, and invited him to lunch. “I want this campaign to be cordial and amicable, and I want to suggest to Mr. Hildahl that we run this on a positive basis – sharing our literature with people and sharing speaking engagements. I welcome a direct comparison based on facts, logics and law; not on emotion, fear and smear.”Bruce said he looks forward to “continuing to earn the confidence of the people in the district.” He said that he intends to keep his campaign promises to oppose taxes and keep the government from growing. After the November election, if he is elected, the people will have a direct line to him through e-mail, phone and ground mail, Bruce said. Visit his Web site at www.douglasbruce.com.
