Grace Community Church in Falcon hosted a harvest festival, chili cook-off, and classic car show for the community Oct. 5. Activities included hay rides to a pumpkin patch (the church provided 300 pumpkins), several games, two bouncy houses, a petting zoo and Bible lessons for children.Pastor Pat Jeffrey said the funds raised from the event will go toward a Guatemala missions trip scheduled for the last week of March 2015. The trip is connected with What Matters Ministry, sponsors of an orphanage in Guatemala. With more than 15 different types of chili, the community had plenty of choices when voting for their favorite. Each chili dish was numbered, and the chefs served their own, providing information on the ingredients they used ó such as antelope meat used by one chef.Several great cars were on display, including a Volkswagen Baja beetle. Four-year-old Jeffrey Freeman declared that particular car his ìmost favorite car in the whole wide world.îFunds were raised by voting with dollars for the best chili and the favorite classic car. Grace Community Church has grown over the years, from its humble beginnings in Jeffreyís living room to a storefront to its permanent home off Londonderry Drive. The church has established a strong presence in the community.Jeffrey said the event was more than a fundraiser. ìOur biggest thing is to do something for the community ó thanks to the community, we had a good time today.î
