The Boulder Acoustic Society will bring to the stage a happy mix of jazz, swing, bluegrass, hot-string band music and pure Americana, along with energetic marimba, percussion, fiddle, guitar, double bass and ukulele blended into catchy traditional and original rhythms. The band’s memorable style has resulted in stellar media reviews. For example, Mark Shulgold, musical and dance writer for The Rocky Mountain News, said, “I can vouch for the joyful spirit this group exudes.” Music teachers like ’em too. Paul Mussa, coordinator of guitar studies at UC Denver, said, “They have an excellent sound and group dynamic. … I really enjoy their unique arrangements.”Kailen Yong, fiddler, was awarded the Daniel Pearl Memorial Violin at the prestigious 2004 Mark O’Connor Strings Conference. Joining Kailen on stage will be Scott Higgins (marimba, percussion), Brad Jones (guitar, uke, vocals), and Aaron Keim (double bass, uke and vocals).
