The Black Forest Log School is open for summer visitors every Thursday, June 16 through August 5.Story Time for primary age children starts at 11 a.m., and the building will remain open for visitors until 3 p.m. Volunteers read stories to children, including the history of Black Forest. An adult must accompany children.A new feature this year is a drive tour guide: “Historic Sites and Landmarks in Black Forest.” Several members of the Old Log School Committee prepared the drive tour guide, which includes explanations of Black Forest points of interest, starting with a walking tour of buildings around the Black Forest Road and Shoup Road cornerstone area. The drive covers a five-mile radius from the Log School, and it can be completed in two hours or broken into a series of shorter legs. Locations of recreational areas and public facilities are noted. Patrons are asked to respect the privacy of homes on the route. The Black Forest Log School was restored to its original appearance when it served as a school from 1922 to 1945. The log school is located on Shoup Road next to the old fire station. The drive tour guides are available when the school is open on Thursdays. There is a small donation for the guide to cover the printing costs. For those who cannot make Thursdays, call 495-2001 or 495-2178 to arrange a tour or obtain a copy of the guide. The school is open for visitors during the Black Forest Festival on Sat., Aug. 13.
