Black Forest Fire and Rescue is accepting unwanted junk vehicles, old buildings and towels for practice scenarios. Junk vehicles are used to stage imaginary traffic accidents for medical training. The vehicles are burned for firefighting training and then cut to practice the rescue of trapped victims.Arrangements can be made to tow a donated junk vehicle. Owners sign over the title to the department and receive a letter confirming the donation.Donations of old buildings ñ large or small ñ that need to be demolished are also sought for training. Fire personnel will view the structure to determine if the training can be safely done. Firefighters often damage a part of a building to save lives. They pry open doors to reach victims, break windows, break through walls and cut holes in a roof to release heat and smoke. The department is also looking for donations of towels for washing fire trucks. Drop towels off at station 1 at 11445 Teachout Road in Colorado Springs. For all donations, call station 1 at 719-495-4300 for details.
