Black Forest AARP celebrates 38 years

The Black Forest AARP Chapter No. 1100 celebrated its 38th anniversary recently with cake and ice cream after a potluck lunch. Allison Carver, ElderWatch senior program specialist from the AARP Foundation office in Denver presented a program entitled “Play it Safe,” designed to alert and educate seniors on fraud, scams and ID theft prevention. Fraud prevention kits were given to each person in attendance.The chapter also kicked off its Day of Service project. A total of 158 pounds of nonperishable food and $179.36 in cash was collected for Black Forest Cares. Many residents volunteered time and donated to this cause, as well as local merchants and organizations.Persons interested in membership or information about Black Forest AARP can contact the chapter president, Waldo Pendleton at 598-2504.
