With the holidays behind us and 2018 a time for new adventures, should your family consider the blessings of hosting an exchange student from many different countries around the free world? The process begins in January for the following school year. Host families will learn about the program and opportunities to share their home with a smart, respectful guy or girl; the families can be located throughout the Pikes Peak region or in Pueblo.Duane Slocum, international coordinator for the International Student Exchange Agency, is looking for single parents, empty nesters or a traditional family with children. The exchange student will be from 15 to 18 years of age, capable of attending and competing in high school classes. Exchange students are required to pass English writing and speaking classes to be accepted into the program.Students arrive with health insurance, vaccinations and spending money. A host family is required to provide meals, a safe place to sleep and transportation to their high school. Slocum will help applicants complete an application, and also visit the home for an inspection and to complete the forms required by the state of Colorado. Anyone interested in more information should contact Slocum at 719-599-8955 or at slocumduane@hotmail.com.
