Battle of the Books

Two Meridian Ranch Elementary School teams received honors in the 24th Annual Pikes Peak Regional Battle of the Books.Read a good book lately? Think you could remember all of the details of that book? How about 40 books? Two teams of fifth graders from MRES battled against 142 teams from the Pikes Peak region on Thursday, April 17 to determine who could correctly answer the most questions about 40 selected books at this year’s Battle of the Books competition. The kids started reading the books at the beginning of the school year. These two Meridian Ranch teams swept the D 49 Battle of the Books competition in each of their meets against other D 49 teams. All of their hard work and preparation paid off. The morning rounds whittled down the number of teams to just six who would participate in the final round held at Shove Chapel on the Colorado College campus. Both teams from Meridian Ranch successfully made it into the final round, along with three teams from Academy District 20 and one team from the Cheyenne Mountain School District 12.In the end, the two Meridian Ranch Elementary School teams brought home third and fourth places. It is a tremendous accomplishment for the kids, their coaches, and their teacher-sponsor. Congratulations!
