Baton twirlers first year ñ big win

The Pikes Peak Twirlers took home the state championship this year ñ the first year of their debut in Falcon! Three twirlers also won individual competitions in the novice category.Coach Krissy Anderson said, besides the state championship, the baton twirlers competed in five other events throughout the year. The ages of the twirlers range from 6 to 14, but Anderson said kids as young as age 3 compete. ìIf you can stand and hold a baton, technically you can twirl, there is no age limit,î Anderson said.She said she has twirled since she was a little girl and her daughter has twirled for a long time as well and is part of a Denver team, the Colorado Twirls.The Pikes Peak Twirlers have a few more events lined up where they will perform, including the July 4 parade in Monument, Anderson said. ìWe would love to perform in Falcon,î she added.Several summer camps will be held this year; if anyone is interested in taking lessons, contact Anderson at 719-494-1938.
