The family owned Firehouse On The Run Barbeque in Black Forest, owned by Jeff Schickler, will be expanding to a 24-foot concession trailer at the corner of Meridian Road and U.S. Highway 24. Schicklerís wife, Kristin, and sons Sean and Christopher will also work both locations. The expansion is a long time coming, Schickler said. He had planned to open before the Black Forest fire but the fire put everything on hold. The Schicklers lost their home to the fire but kept the Black Forest barbecue trailer open to help support the community. ìWe put off the move (second location) because of the fire,î he said. ìI didn’t want to short-change the fire victims that needed to be fed.îThe official opening day is May 1; the concession stand will open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The exact days they will open will be determined based on demand. ìI’ll feel things out,î Schickler said. ìOnce families get to know we’re there, I think there won’t be any bad days out there. For now, the concession trailer will be a seasonal fixture in Falcon, but Schickler hopes business will be strong enough to support a long-term location.ìThe response has been big,î said Schickler, referring to the signs he posted in the community about the expansion. He originally planned to smoke the meat at the Black Forest restaurant and transport it; however, because of the enthusiasm of local residents, he decided to purchase another smoker; and all meat will be smoked onsite at the Falcon location. Schickler said the trailer has a patio out front, as well as a covered seating area to the side ñ complete with picnic tables that will seat about 24 people. The menu is the same as the Black Forest location, and he plans on serving ice cream cones and ice cream sandwiches and is looking into soft-serve ice cream next year. The menu and additional information can be found at their website, http://firehouseontherun.com.
