While many Falcon High School students took the summer to get away from high school life, the football team has been hard at work. The boys have been lifting weights to improve agility, strength and speed, playing seven-on-seven against their teammates to learn plays and traveling all the way to Kearney, Neb., for a nationwide football camp. The FHS football team left for the University of Nebraska at Kearney June 10 for a three-day camp. Jason Catron, head coach of Falcon’s football team, commented on the camp and its purpose. “Kearney is a full contact team camp where we work on our own fundamentals,” Catron said. “We participated in live scrimmages against other teams. The camp is a good team-building experience; it gets everyone together.”Once the team returned from Nebraska, the boys had a four-day break to relax and rest before heading back into the weight room at 6:30 a.m. to prepare for the upcoming season. This year, Catron brought the team together July 17 to begin the seven-on-seven practices, where the boys work on schemes, plays and fundamentals. They also began work on the offensive and defensive lines.Sean Anderson, a freshman, is hoping to play offensive guard and D-line for the C-team. He talked about his new experiences at Falcon High School. “The UNK camp was awesome, plus it was really fun, except for the humidity,” Anderson said. The camp was a great learning experience for the younger team members, he said.”Varsity should do just as good as last year, if not better,” Anderson said. “J.V has come together well this summer and should have a good season, and C-t team hopes to go undefeated, unlike last year. The boys came together pretty well this summer. Over all, I am looking forward to the 07-08 football season.”Catron has high hopes for a .500 season and is looking in the future at the playoffs. “The senior class is strong and close,” Catron said. “They have helped mentor the under classes. The teamwork is headed in the right direction.”Everyone is welcome to come out this season and support the football team, Catron said.
