Archery is a great way to build and maintain strength, and itís an enjoyable activity for the whole family. Archers build strength by drawing their bows, and it takes core strength to hold one’s body still while taking a shot, according to healthyliving.azcentral.com. The website also touts the mental health benefits of archery. The United States Air Force Academy sports its own unusual archery ranges, with four walking courses and one stationary course. The walking courses weave through the woods on the Academy, and people can enjoy the outdoors while experiencing the sport.ìI like the Academy range because it’s a huge range with a lot of variety,î said Matt Davis, a member of the Academy Archery Club. ìYou can walk around and see lots of wildlife, and there’s a sweet 3-D course.î Davis said one day he was so close to a deer he could have reached out and touched it. The archery clubís clubhouse is open Saturdays only, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. During these hours, guests can purchase a membership, take lessons and rent equipment. The ranges are available for use seven days a week. Guests and non-members of the club who do not have a military I.D. must access the Academy through the south gate only, and must contact the range to provide the information needed to gain access to the Academy. Details for gaining access, including point of contact, can be found at http://academyarcheryclub.org/ under the ìAccess Rangeî tab.
