If you’re looking for a new place to golf, you don’t have to look far. Antler Creek Golf Course, hidden amongst Woodmen Hills and the new Meridian Ranch housing developments located just east of Meridian Road, is open for business.”It’s only been open about five months,” said Jerry Medford, recently elected president of Antler Creek’s Men Golf Association. “It’s a super golf course. It really is.”The golf course, designed by Rick Phelps, ASGCA, is a “prairie dune style” golf course and measures out to 8,165 yards. “It is the longest course in Colorado,” boasted Medford. “It is a massive, well-built, well-designed course.”With 18 holes available to golfers, Medford said the course provides tee boxes suited for novices, but also provides a challenge for more experienced golfers. Antler Creek also offers a newly formed men’s golf association and is currently working on forming an association for women.Medford clarified that the golf course is privately owned. “We have no input, no decision making of the operations of the golf course,” he said. “We don’t have any say so of it.” However, Medford said the availability of the golf association is a valuable asset to Antler Creek. “It’s extremely important … to have us form this type of organization,” he said. The golf associations, Medford said, allow golfers to work within the established by-laws to set up tournaments that help support the needs of the golf course. He explained that most courses within the Colorado Springs area have closed its men’s association memberships. “Here is the advantage of what we have; it’s new and open to anyone,” Medford said. “The men’s association is open to anybody in the community … all through Colorado Springs … anywhere.” He said there are roughly 50 current members of Antler Creek men’s golf association. The cost to join is $100 a year. Sixty-five dollars covers the cost of membership and the remaining $35 goes toward maintaining the proper handicaps.Antler Creek’s June Golf TournamentsWed., June 1 – Two-Man Best Mall Blind DrawSun., June 5 – Low Gross/Low Net (Women’s Assoc. invited)Wed., June 8 – “Tombstone” (Women’s Assoc. invited)Sat., June 11 – Two-Man Best Ball (Blind draw?) *Must have posted one scorefor trend handicap (adjusted based on ten-shot differential) **GHIN/non-GHIN?Wed., June 15 – Scotch Two-Man (Women’s Assoc. invited)Sun., June 19 – Member/Guest Two-Man (9 ball scramble/9 best ball)Wed., June 22 – Tee Box Tourney (3’s Green, 4’s White, and 5’s Yellow) Member/GuestSat., June 25 – One, Two, Three-Best Ball Four-Man “Yellow ball” cash game detailsWed., June 29 – “Las Vegas” ScrambleFor more information or to inquire about Antler Creek’s Men’s Golf Association July through September tournament schedule, contact Antler Creek Golf at 494-1900 or go to www.antlercreekgolf.com.
