The Aug. 18 American Legion Dane R. Balcon Post 2008 Golf Challenge, held at Cheyenne Shadows Golf Course on Fort Carson, was a success.The members of Falcon’s Dane R. Balcon Post 2008 would like to thank the participants and also these sponsors and prize donors: The State Bank of Falcon, Entertainmart, CMH Liquor of Falcon, American Liquor of Falcon, Golden Coral, Chipotle Grill, Gunther Toody’s, Harmony Bowl, Ciao Bella Pizzeria & Restaurant, Nawlins BBQ, Frankie’s Too, Unicorn Salon, Cheyenne Shadows Golf Club, Dick’s Sporting Goods, BIG5 Sports, Outback Steak House, Edelweiss Restaurant, Papa Murphy’s of Falcon, Jiffy Lube of Falcon, Denny’s, Village Inn, Curves, Sky Sox Baseball, Water Works Car Wash, Spirit Keeper, UPS Store of Falcon, Marriott Spring Hill Suites, Trane Co., Sam’s Club, and World Golf & Sand Creek Golf Club.We would also like to thank Robert “Bob” Bates and Theodore “Buzz” Fransk for organizing the event, Cheyenne Shadows Golf Club employees, and the Post 2008 members who helped on the day of the event.A donation was also made to Falcon High School. Commander Al Bendure, from Falcon’s American Legion Dane R. Balcon Post 2008, presented FHS Principal Mark Carara with a $600 check designated to the school’s secondary literacy program. The money will be spent to purchase reading software and thesauri. FHS’s secondary literacy program provides students with research based reading comprehension strategies that enhance not only academic achievement in high school but also success in the career field chosen after graduation.
