All Pikes Peak Reads

All Pikes Peak Reads (APPR) 2004 will feature “Treasure Island” by Robert Louis Stevenson, one of the best-loved adventure stories of all time. Stevenson’s tale explores the coming of age, trust and honesty and identifying what is valuable in our lives. APPR will incorporate these themes in a variety of activities for children, teens, adults and families that will be scheduled at various sites throughout the community.APPR is a community-wide literary program designed to rally everyone in El Paso County to read the same book and join in a community discussion about the book.More than 40,000 El Paso County residents have been involved in discussion groups, theater presentations, seminars and workshops, film screenings and family events.This year’s program runs from Sept. 26 through Oct.17 and includes the following:

  • Set Sail Party & Launch event, September 26 at Acacia Park
  • TheatreWorks of Colorado Springs presents “Treasure Island” beginning Sept. 24 (www.uccstheatreworks.com)
  • Book discussion groups
  • “The Pirate’s Life for Me” film festival
  • Life at Sea children’s activities
  • Seafarers’ Ball, Oct. 15 at the City Auditorium
