From the looks of the three-armed markers found near Hogden Road, people driving by might think aliens are about to land. In reality, the spaceship-like objects are aerial survey markers.John McCarty of the El Paso County Transportation Department said the markers provide horizontal and vertical control points that will be used to design and build improvements along Hogden Road, between Highway 83 and Eastonville Road. Planned improvements include paved shoulders and better drainage. Intersections also will be examined for unsafe conditions and modified as needed. The Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority is funding the improvements, with costs at about $13.4 million. The planning started in April, but construction is not expected to begin until 2010 because of cash flow considerations and higher priority projects.
