A worldly perspective on Easter

What does Easter mean to you? Is it a time to dye eggs, maybe visit the Easter Bunny at the mall? Perhaps you enjoy the traditional Easter egg hunt. However you celebrate, Easter is around the corner.Growing up in a large Catholic family, our Easters were spent with family. The excitement may not have filled the air like Christmas, but a basket full of candy made up for it. I remember Easter morning as a time to go to church to celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. More importantly was the time we spent with family. So, how do others feel about Easter? I was able to get a few different perspectives. Some thoughts from others:“At this time of year, there are no seasonal ceremonies or festive day,” said Gloria Kirkpatrick, a Buddhist who lives in Falcon.Lee James, director of Fellowship of Christian Athletes, said, “This is the day we celebrate the resurrection of my Lord Jesus Christ and His defeat of sin and death. Jesus gave me an option to make a choice of life or death, I have chosen life.”Bill Johnson, owner of a plumbing company has a different perspective. “I never really celebrated this holiday. I know it has to do with Jesus or something”.”This is the time of year we celebrate the Passover of Jesus Christ,” said Mark Brown from Jews for Christ. “It’s the most festive day of the year. Celebrating the birth is wonderful, but without the resurrection, we would be no better off than before.”One thing is certain: We live in a great country that allows us to choose to celebrate or not – a country that allows us our religious differences.
