Caleb Dufrene, age 11, had a special surprise during his last class of the day on Aug 29 at Skyview Middle School. His father, Jamie Dufrene, Master Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, returned from deployment in Kabul, Afghanistan and arrived early to pick up Caleb from school. Caleb had no clue his father would be coming home.ìI was very excited and very shocked that he came home now,î Caleb said. ìWhat first went through my brain was that I couldn’t believe he was home. I kind of panicked. I didn’t know what to do.îCaleb said he had a difficult time during the six months his father was deployed. ìI barely got through it. I would cry a lot at nights,î he said. Dad Jamie said, ìAs soon as I saw him I just wanted to give him a big hug. And comfort him.î Dufrene is currently stationed at Buckley Air Force Base in Aurora, Colo. His family stayed in Colorado Springs while he was deployed so the kids could continue in their schools and sports programs. Dufrene, his wife, Jenny, and Caleb were on their way to surprise Caleb’s brother, Conner, at Ridgeview Elementary.
A sweet reunion
