On Saturday, April 8, Frankie’s Too looked like a Mary Kay convention: pink balloons, pink ribbons, pink shirts, pink everything. But it wasn’t about cosmetics. It was about hair – or the loss of it.Six brave men lined up at Frankie’s to have their heads shaved for the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. Deanna Patrick, owner of A Flair for Hair in Falcon, co-coordinated the fundraising event with her sister, Paula Darden of Colorado Springs. The pair set out to raise $1,800 each, which they needed to participate in the 39-mile marathon in Denver June 24 and June 25.They met their goal and more. The fundraiser garnered $4,000. “Never have I been so humbled by a group of people before in my life,” Patrick said. “I’m still in awe. Speechless. And [everyone knows] I’m never speechless.”Those who participated in the head-shaving event brought a minimum of $200 to the table, but almost all of the participants raised more than the required amount. Volunteers added to the donation total by selling various novelties like hats with breast cancer ribbons, bracelets and magnets to Frankie’s customers throughout the evening.Prior to the fundraiser, Patrick raised an additional $1,000 through a raffle at her salon, which will end the last week in May.”I would love to do it again next year and see if we can get more people who are willing to join us and do the actual walk next year,” she said. The brave men who lost their locks:
