NRA Foundation awards grant for Post 2008 junior shooting program
   Submitted by Chip Kossow

The NRA Foundation has awarded the Young Guns Post 2008 Junior Shooting Sports Program a grant totaling $1,192 to fund new equipment.
Young Guns Post 2008 is a program of Dane R. Balcon Post 2008 of The American Legion in Falcon. The program started in 2017 with a grant from the NRA Foundation; it teaches local youths gun safety and marksmanship for the Three Position Air Rifle.
"We are very excited about the program, which teaches youth the importance of gun safety, and pleased that the NRA is making an investment in our community,” said James Kendig, Post 2008 member.
The National Rifle Association, established in 1871, is America’s oldest civil rights and sportsmen’s group. Five million members strong, NRA continues its mission to uphold Second Amendment rights, and is the leader in firearm education and training for law-abiding gun owners, law enforcement and the military.
The NRA Foundation was established in 1990 to raise tax-deductible contributions in support of a wide range of firearm-related public interest activities. These activities are designed to promote firearm and hunting safety, to enhance marksmanship skills of those participating in the shooting sports; and to educate the general public about firearms in their historic, technological and artistic context. Visit
Friends of NRA is an all-volunteer fundraising program that, with help from NRA field staff, plans community events for firearms enthusiasts. All net proceeds from Friends of NRA events are allocated to the NRA Foundation to provide grants for equipment, training materials, range improvements and more to involve and inspire a new generation of competitive shooters.    “Summer camp can be a foundational and transformational experiences for kids; an opportunity to grow individually and connect with peers while building skills and enjoying the outdoors,” said Donald L. Sturm, chairman of ANB Bank. “Our goal is to make Ranch Camp stand out as a top tier overnight camp, where children from all over the country can experience outdoor education and activities through a Jewish lens. We’ve honed in on the capital projects that will enhance the camper experience, encourage personal growth and build community amongst the campers.”
Updates to the camp include a new ropes course and zip line, a modernized center of camp with seating and play areas, shade structures for the soccer field and pavilion and a new and renovated bathhouse.
JCC Ranch Camp, celebrating 66 year, is located on 380 acres in Black Forest. It is a place where campers can explore, connect with other Jewish kids and have an enriching summer experience.
