  Top 20 Colorado cities for raising a family

   “With Colorado today boasting one of the lowest unemployment rates in the nation and ranking among the top states to raise a family, the personal-finance website WalletHub today released its report identifying 2019’s Best Places to Raise a Family in Colorado,” according to WalletHub.
   WalletHub compared more than 60 cities in the state across 21 key metrics. The data set ranges from housing affordability to school-system quality to unemployment rate. Black Forest ranked in the top 20.

  • Golden has the most playgrounds (per 100,000 residents), 24.55, which is 26.7 times more than in Pueblo, the city with the fewest at 0.92.
  • Johnstown has the fewest violent crimes (per 1,000 residents), 0.18, which is 58.5 times fewer than in Pueblo, the city with the most at 10.53.
  • Castle Pines has the highest median annual family income (adjusted for cost of living), $114,272, which is 2.7 times higher than in Fort Carson, the city with the lowest at $42,165.
  • Black Forest has the lowest separation and divorce rate, 8.53 percent, which is four times lower than in Welby, the city with the highest at 34.20 percent.
  • Lone Tree has the lowest share of families receiving food stamps, 0.45 percent, which is 60.1 times lower than in Federal Heights, the city with the highest at 27.06 percent.
