A local food pantry has opened its doors for people in need from the Falcon and Peyton areas.Mountain Springs Helping Hands, operated by Mountain Springs Church, is located at the Falcon Storage Center. Jean Woolsey, Falcon Storage Center owner, said the space was chosen because of its proximity to Falcon and Peyton residents.”It is faith-based, but not faith-required,” Woolsey said of Mountain Springs Helping Hands. She said Grace Community church also plans to contribute to the food pantry by holding food drives.Woolsey said the food pantry idea was initiated because “in the Falcon and Peyton area there is nowhere to go for assistance.”Eventually, the food pantry will offer clothing and school supplies.”We’re starting out simple by offering food. Many more services will be offered down the road,” she said.In addition to the food pantry, classes like job interviewing tips, entertaining on a low budget and inexpensive cooking will be offered at the storage center.Mountain Springs Helping Hands is open Mondays and Thursdays. For more information, call 888-HLPHAND (888-456-4263).
