The El Paso County Board of County Commissioners voted to keep the county fair and the fairgrounds under the auspices of the county, coordinated by the El Paso County Parks and Leisure Services Department. The commissioners reviewed proposals from the El Paso County Fair Association, and decided that maintaining the fair under the county was the most cost-effective management option. The fair will no longer be considered an enterprise fund, and its reclassification within the county base budget could save almost $12,000 by eliminating financial oversight and administration costs, according to the news release. The commissioners also requested that the county fair’s reserve fund go toward fairground capital improvements.
