Although it’s not exactly a “new” question, it’s one for the New Year. Most people talk about it; some people do something about it; others never get started; others quit after two weeks. Yep, it’s all about those New Year’s resolutions.Resolutions are as traditional to New Year’s as turkey is to Thanksgiving.According to the Web site www.goalsguy.com, the tradition of the New Years resolutions dates back to 153 B.C. when the Romans placed Janus, a mythical king of early Rome, at the head of the calendar. The Romans believed Janus had two faces, which allowed a look back and a look forward. The mythical king became a symbol for resolutions. The Web site also indicates the New Year has not always begun on Jan. 1 – the date is reserved for cultures using a 365-day solar calendar. Jan. 1 officially represented a New Year starting in 46 B.C., when Julius Caesar developed a calendar that would more accurately reflect the seasons than previous calendars had.Whatever the date, it’s a celebration and a time to reflect and renew.
