On Feb. 7, 2006, the Upper Black Squirrel Groundwater Management District will hold an election to fill seats in Districts 1, 2, 4 and 5. If anyone is interested in having a say in forming policies and rules governing the water supply in the Upper Black Squirrel alluvial aquifer and the Denver Basin wells underlying that aquifer, consider running for a position on the board.Candidates must own land and have lived in the representing area for at least the last 20 months.Election petitions may be obtained from the Upper Black Squirrel GWMD office located in Calhan beginning Dec. 15. Every candidate will need at least 20 signatures from registered voters living within his or her district. Petitions must be returned to the office by Jan. 9, 2006.Check your property taxes. If you pay taxes to UBS and live east of Meridian Road, with the exception of Falcon Town Center, you probably are eligible to be a candidate. Call Tracy Doran, secretary for Upper Black Squirrel GWMD, at 347-0704 to find out what district you live in and make an appointment to pick up your petition.
