Bruce holds town hall meeting

Editor’s note: On Sept. 10, El Paso County Commissioner Douglas Bruce held a town hall meeting. He addressed the above issues. The NFH, even though the issue has been addressed in other newspapers and television reports more than a few times, talked to Sallie Clark and the health department about Bruce’s liaison role and the hiring of Margaret Radford.El Paso County Commissioner Sallie Clark answered Bruce’s accusations with a plea to get back to business as normal.”I think it is time for Commissioner Bruce to get over … whatever anger he has towards Councilman Radford. I think it is time for him to move on and try to realize that we all need to work together in this community and work with people instead of always being adversary because I think we can get a whole lot more done that way.”Clark said there weren’t any “secret backdoor” meetings held by her and any of the other commissioners to remove Bruce as co-liaison. She said commissioners are not permitted to discuss agenda issues when three or more commissioners are present, as it falls outside the Sunshine Act.The vote to remove Bruce as liaison and replace him with Hisey passed 3 to 2.(Bruce has maintained that the county hired Radford because of her relationship with Clark, who is adamant that she had nothing to do with the hire. The health department maintains Radford was the best person for the job.)
