One of the problems we encounter in our home with our young children is the question “can we watch TV now?” Some days it seems as if that is all they want to do. Some of us as parents are guilty of too much TV, and while deep down we know that TV consumption should be limited more, it is hard to do. With the hot temperatures we have been having this past month, it is almost too hot to do much of anything outdoors for any extended period. So, I have compiled a list of 20 things to do with your children instead of watching TV:
- Take a walk
- Ride your bikes
- Read a book
- Play a board game
- Play outside
- Go swimming
- Bake cookies
- Color, paint, draw
- Plant flowers or a garden
- Put a puzzle together
- Scavenger/ treasure hunt in the neighborhood or your backyard
- Play catch or shoot hoops
- Find a new park
- Turn on the music and dance
- Teach your child a new sport
- Invite a friend over, even at the last minute
- Make a fort with pillows and blankets
- Have a water balloon fight
- Make your own obstacle course
- Blow bubbles
