LIBRARY PROGRAMS

All library programs are free unless otherwise noted. For more information, visit ppld.orgLibrary World Music Series – free concertZydeco singer Geno Delafose and his band, French Rockin’ Boogie, will bring a musical gumbo of Cajun, R & B, country and blues to Colorado Springs on July 22 as part of Pikes Peak Library District’s World Music Series.Geno Delafose fuses his Creole roots and modern voice to usher in a new era of zydeco music. Delafose, awarded the “Best Zydeco Artist” at the 2003 Big Easy Awards in New Orleans, has helped the genre crossover to a wider audience. His most recent album, “Everybody’s Dancin’,” is packed with fresh sounds and the traditional flavor of old-fashioned waltzes, two-steps, blues and soul. He sings in English and French, and is one of the few zydeco artists to play both the button and piano accordion. The band hails from Southwest Louisiana, and Delafose divides his time between touring and operating his ranch outside of Eunice in Louisiana’s bayou country, where he breeds cattle and raises quarter horses. This is the third concert in PPLD’s World Music Series, which features artists from around the world. The event is sponsored by the Gay & Lesbian Fund for Colorado, the Bee Vradenburg Foundation and Colorado College. The concert will be held at The Colorado College Shove Chapel at 8:30 p.m. on July 22. The doors open at 8 p.m. This concert is free, but advance ticket reservations are required.
