Farmers Market – it’s back!

Forty to 60 vendors are setting up shop off Highway 24 behind the Farmer’s State Bank every Wednesday at 3 p.m. until dark and the second and fourth Sunday of each month, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. until September 25.Diana Dickson is heading it up, and she brings to the table 10 varieties of honey, fruit and pepper jams and preserves.Produce vendors from Pueblo, Cañon City and Palisade will market their fresh Colorado produce. Taylor Farms will be bringing seven varieties of peaches and a couple different types of sweet corn in July. Dickson said a highlight of the farmers’ market is the roasted chilies from the Arkansas Valley.Also on tap are Kevin and Sherry Fields of Family Pride Fisheries. They will sell five kinds of salmon that have been caught off the shores of Kodiak Island in Alaska. Family Pride flash freezes the catch within one hour, and the salmon is then processed and vacuum packed in Seattle. “You’ll never taste fresher salmon,” Fields said.Pet supplies, crafts, jewelry and artwork can be found at the market as well.Janet Sellers, an artist from Monument, provides on-site art lessons and sells cards, prints and paintings.Falcon vendor Richard Gawron, who owns the wholesale tree farm, Trees, Trees, Trees, sells Austrian pines, three kinds of maples and several other species of trees including Siberian elms, the heartiest tree for Colorado, he said.There are many things to see, including pony rides for the kids, Dickson said, “Come for lunch and stay all afternoon!”Dickson welcomes other local gardeners, crafters and vendors.
