Boys and Girls Club Update

Because of the efforts of a group of concerned parents headed by Brandy Merriam, District 49 schools will have the Boys and Girls Club available during the 2005-2006 school year. The program, based at Falcon Elementary School, enrolled about 75 children last year. It was canceled in December and tentatively reinstated in February. The parents group, with the support of Nancy Valdez, FES principal, and Dr. Ron Wynn, D49 interim superintendent, lobbied the school board for a firm commitment to allow the Boys and Girls Club at the elementary school. The school board was responsive to the parents and agreed to a contract with the Boys and Girls Club. Parents of students attending Falcon, Meridian Ranch and Woodmen Hills Elementary Schools are encouraged to register their children by picking up forms from Falcon Elementary School or by visiting the Boys and Girls Club office at 1445 South Chelton Rd.The Boys and Girls Club will be available after school until 6 p.m. for a fee of $4 per day or $18 per week. A bus will be available to transport children to the Boys and Girls Club facility in Colorado Springs on teacher in-service days. Parents would be responsible for picking their children up from that facility.A summer program is available in Colorado Springs for 6 to 18-year olds between the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at a cost of $25 per week.
