The El Paso County Fair queen will be chosen at on Sat., March 26, at the El Paso County Fair and Events complex in Calhan. The contest begins at 9 a.m.Those interested may obtain an application packet by calling the fair office at 719-520-7880. Completed applications are due back in the fair office by 3 p.m. Fri., Feb. 25.Eligible contestants must be single and never married females and at least high school seniors. They must be at least 18 years old and no older than 22 years at the time of the contest. This is not a contest intended for professionals (i.e. models, actors.) No contestant may be signed with an agent, enrolled in modeling or acting school or involved in professional modeling or acting. Contestants must be El Paso County residents and able to work with staff and committee members in order to represent the El Paso County Fair.The queen will be chosen based on judging in four areas: application, horsemanship, public speaking and a personal interview. Contestants will draw numbers for order of competition.The El Paso County Fair Queen Committee policy describes the El Paso County Fair queen as a wholesome representative of this community, a non-professional public figure and an ambassador for El Paso County and its fair.During the fair, the queen is a visible, friendly face, and she interacts with 4-H youth by distributing ribbons and encouraging them in their projects and efforts. She learns promotion, communication and people skills during her reign, and relinquishes her crown to a new queen with whom she provides guidance and counsel.The Rampart Range Kiwanis Club and the Good Luck Sams chapter of the National Good Luck Sams Club provide honorariums for the queen.Shelly Ann Looper, 21, reigns as the 2004 El Paso County Fair Queen. Shelly, the daughter of Lynn and Marsha Looper, will crown the new queen at the competition.The fair queen coordinator is Pam Dawson of Peyton.The 100th annual El Paso County Fair will be July 23 through July 30 at the El Paso County Fair and Events complex in Calhan.
