Developer Rusty Green has suggested to the D 49 board that developers and builders finance a ballot initiative again next year to present to voters. According to a Dec. 5 Gazette article, Woodmen Hills developer Green also has discussed supplementing a tax increase, should it pass, with private money from developers and builders.Board members have said they wouldn’t go back to the voters in 2005, but the possibility of additional monies from developers might prompt another bond issue. And voters may be more inclined to support the bond issue if developers fund the schools as well. Many who live in the school district, especially the rapidly growing Falcon area, are concerned and unhappy with growth. Let the developers pay for it and that includes the schools. They may get their way – at least halfway – if it all comes to fruition.School officials have discussed year-round schooling as an alternative to crowded schools, but officials are holding off on making that decision until next year.The Gazette article reported that 1,100 new students enrolled this year, with 1,200 expected in the 2005-2006 school year.
