Polaris Project Limited received a grant for $2,000 from the Gay and Lesbian Fund for Colorado. The grant will support general operating costs for the organization. Other grants include $2,500 from the Animal Assistance Foundation, $1,500 from the Boeing Employee Community Fund and $2,250 from the El Paso County Physicians Foundation.Polaris Project Limited is a nonprofit crime-prevention outreach organization. It was founded on the belief that ending violence against women begins with empowering their hearts and minds. Polaris attacks violence and victimization of women from every angle in order to decrease the prevalence of such atrocities in our society. From prevention seminars to specialized victim services, the mission is to arm women of all ages with the knowledge and strength to remain safe.Steven Vought, president and chief executive officer, said, “We are very pleased to receive this grant from the Gay and Lesbian Fund for Colorado. The grant comes at an important time for the organization as the demand for prevention and victim services is growing exponentially. We see this grant as an indication that we are on the right track in our commitment to ending violence and victimization against women in our community.”Polaris is in desperate need of foster homes for the “Canine Crusaders” candidates until they are placed. The Canine Crusaders program places “safety” dogs with women who have been victims of violence. If you know someone who would be interested in fostering, please contact either Steve (201-9019) or Janna (201-8951).(Next month, the NFH will feature the Polaris Project Canine Crusader program.)
