Dr. Michael Furlin, owner of PhysioEdge Physical Therapy & Sports Performance, will offer $15 sports physicals for student-athletes Aug. 1 from 8 a.m. to noon in the Peyton High School gym. All proceeds will go to Peyton’s athletic department.
The event is open to student-athletes not only from Peyton High School but also from other schools in the Black Forest League, including Calhan, Edison, Elbert, Simla and others. No appointments are necessary.
“Student-athletes shouldn’t have to choose between playing the sport they love and paying for the paperwork that lets them do it safely,” Furlin said. “Partnering with Athletic Director Richard Deems on this sports physicals event lets us knock out a required step for families at a fraction of the usual cost, and 100% of what we collect goes right back into Peyton’s athletic program.”
Deems, Peyton High School’s athletic director, has worked with Furlin to organize the event and recruit medical professionals and other volunteers.
Participants will move through individual stations to register, have their height and weight measured, complete vision screenings and have their blood pressure checked. Furlin and Deems will conduct movement screenings and musculoskeletal assessments. Nurse practitioners, physicians and physician assistants will complete the required medical clearance.
Furlin said the event reflects a broader goal for PhysioEdge to support young athletes and the surrounding community beyond the services offered at his clinic.
“It’s a simple way for our clinic to invest directly in the kids, coaches and community around us,” he said. Furlin also credited the medical professionals, students and parents volunteering their time to make the event possible.
