Dr. Andre Shook and his wife, Dr. Adriana Chaves, purchased Powers Dental Group and renamed it East Side Modern Dentistry in the fall of 2025.
Located at 11950 Tourmaline Drive, Suite 100, the practice has operated at its current location since 2023.
East Side Modern Dentistry offers a full range of general dental services, including preventive care, fillings, crowns, bridges, dentures, cosmetic dentistry, dental implants and emergency care.
Shook, a Colorado Springs native, said his goal is to build lasting relationships with patients.
“We’re not trying to be a large, multi-location practice,” Shook said. “We want patients to know us, and we want to know them and their families.”
He said the office uses modern dental technology, including digital X-rays and intraoral scanners that create detailed digital images of patients’ teeth.
The practice is designed to help patients feel at ease, particularly those with dental anxiety.
“We talk with our patients about what they like and don’t like, and what makes them nervous,” Shook said.
In addition to taking time to understand each patient’s concerns, the office offers amenities such as warm blankets, neck pillows, headphones, televisions, coffee and water. Oral sedation is available for patients who need additional relaxation during treatment, and the practice works with a local anesthesiology group for more complex sedation needs.
A graduate of Liberty High School, Shook earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado Colorado Springs before attending dental school at the University of Southern California, where he received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. He then completed a two-year general practice residency through the University of California, Los Angeles, and the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System, receiving advanced training in all aspects of dentistry with an emphasis on implant dentistry. He also is a fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists.
After completing his residency, Shook returned to Colorado Springs to practice dentistry. He said he values serving the community where he grew up.
“I know the community and its schools. My father went to Falcon High School. I’m truly local,” Shook said.
East Side Modern Dentistry has two dentists, including Chaves, who practices part time, along with a team of hygienists, dental assistants, front office staff and an office manager. The practice is accepting new patients and plans to expand appointment availability as demand grows while maintaining its small-practice approach.
East Side Modern Dentistry is open Mondays from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Wednesday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The office is closed Tuesdays.
