PhysioEdge takes performance-focused approach

By Deb Risden

Dr. Michael Furlin opened PhysioEdge Physical Therapy & Sports Performance in November 2023 with the goal of delivering performance-based physical therapy in the Falcon and Peyton areas. In August 2025, after initially subleasing a small space, the practice moved into a larger, 1,500-square-foot clinic to accommodate its growth.

Furlin, a doctor of physical therapy and a board-certified orthopedic clinical specialist, said his model differs from traditional clinics by focusing on individualized, one-on-one care and overall performance — not just injury recovery.

“We look at the whole body rather than just the injury,” Furlin said. He noted that his clients often seek preventive care or aim to improve strength and mobility for better performance in sports or activities.

“Our methods are grounded in established practices rather than trends,” he said. “Nothing new or different. We utilize the tried and true. I firmly believe in evidence-based approaches to achieve results — no cookie-cutter exercises.”

Each client receives a personalized experience, including a full movement assessment, direct communication and customized plans. “Every patient gets my personal number and an app with a personalized exercise program to do at home, so they aren’t forced to come in two to three times a week if they don’t need to,” Furlin said. “I like to empower patients and teach them how to work on themselves, so they aren’t fully dependent on a clinician.”

His practice does not double-book clients, and care is provided solely by their physical therapist, not an assistant.

Before becoming a physical therapist, Michael Furlin was a professional motorcycle racer for about four years. He said that experience shaped his understanding of physical performance and recovery. He remains active through recreational ice hockey, golf, mountain biking and weightlifting.

Furlin’s decision to open his own clinic was partly driven by dissatisfaction with traditional care models. “I’ve worked for different PT clinics in Colorado Springs and wasn’t happy with the treatment models. Some clinics allow insurance companies to dictate the quality of care patients receive,” he said. “When patients come here, regardless of their insurance, they all get treated the same. I try to keep insurance out of the equation.”

The practice began as a cash-pay model but has since adopted a hybrid approach, accepting Tricare and Veterans Affairs patients while offering flexible payment options for others. Clients can use health savings or flexible spending accounts, and payment plans and discounts are available. Furlin also provides “superbills” that clients can submit to their insurance companies for potential reimbursement.

Furlin is certified in sports nutrition and dry needling, both of which he offers to his clients.

In treating a wide range of clients — from children as young as age 8 to adults in their 80s — Furlin said he is increasingly focused on longevity and overall health. “I want to help people live as healthily and as long as possible,” he said. He partners with doctors who provide blood panels, hormone and peptide testing.

Furlin said opening the practice in the Falcon-Peyton area was a natural choice. He and his wife, along with their two young children, have lived in Peyton for six years. “It’s a small but growing community, and I want to be a part of that growth,” he said. “I want to help the community as much as I can.”

He is in the process of hiring an additional physical therapist, with plans to expand to as many as four clinicians as the practice grows.

PhysioEdge Physical Therapy & Sports Performance is located at 7415 Firehouse View, Suite 120, in Peyton. Appointments can be made through the company’s website, by phone or by email.
